"Now Starfish have a dedicated Preschool Teacher it has transformed the Jellyfish Preschool class. The room is more structured getting the children ready for school and the children are loving jolly phonics. The staff are all very friendly and the children adore them. The installation of computers has also been a great hit."

One of our principal aims for Preschool children is to ensure they receive high quality care and early education. We deliver this in child centred preschool rooms in accordance with the principles from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). By advocating this approach to learning we are enhancing their preparation for the world of ‘big school’.
We provide a balanced provision of adult supported and play experiences within rich, stimulating indoor and outdoor environments. We ensure these environments include complexity and challenge, with the aim of encouraging children’s initiative and development of skills. We support our children’s development and consolidation of these skills and concepts by giving them the time and opportunities to make sense of their world, grow in confidence, and for them to believe in themselves as capable and powerful learners.
We believe our children strive in an environment where they have first hand experiences of the world around them. We commit to this by encouraging our children’s encounters and discoveries in their local community through the display of their creative projects and the development of strong links with local schools. This also leads to a busy and exciting week which may include visits from specialists in Spanish, music, yoga, football and techno tots.
Children in the Pre School room freely access all experiences and resources within their environment. Computers and quiet areas are available for peaceful activities alongside areas stimulating their imaginations and creativity. Jelly Fish Pre School has an outdoor area as an extension of their room where children freely access fresh air and explore their world. To encourage early literacy skills children actively participate in jolly phonics sessions and share books at home with family. This is initiated by the pre school teacher.
Our progressive approach to the EYFS is supported by current knowledge and is developed with the assistance of our Early Years Curriculum Advisor and Surrey Early Years. Together with the preschool teacher and her team, this ensures high quality delivery of the EYFS. The EYFS sets out six areas of learning which are:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Communication, language and literacy
- Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
