Angelfish Baby Room

Babies and families are welcomed into our light, spacious and modern room where we provide the perfect introduction to nursery life. Babies can join us from three months of age where we have a comfortable staff ratio of 1:3. Angelfish has three rooms, a messy room, sleep room and a playroom. An area of the playroom is decorated in black, white and red as until 6 months of age babies respond best to bold, contrasting colours. These colours captivate and hold babies attention, encouraging visual activity and physical activity such as wiggling, kicking and arm waving.

Our baby room offers a wonderful sensorial experience full of textures, light and creativity where our babies are encouraged to be freely creative and are provided with a vast range of quality materials and resources to stimulate and inspire their young developing minds. All of our babies have access to their own secure garden where they can enjoy sunshine and fresh air.

In our baby room you will notice:
  • babies having every opportunity to roll, crawl, sit, climb, balance, jump, reach, grasp and throw both indoors and outdoors.
  • staff who support a baby’s choice to reflect and dream or to be active.
  • minimal adult furniture, encouraging babies to crawl and snuggle with their carers in a safe nurturing environment
  • an environment stimulating from a baby's eye-level
  • treasure baskets full to the brim of natural, washable everyday objects rich in different textures, temperatures, weight, shapes, sounds and tastes for babies to grasp and manipulate
  • a flexible room with quiet cosy corners and bright active spaces
  • high quality furnishings at a baby’s level
  • mirrors and light for babies to experiment with shadows and reflections
  • creative resources encouraging sand and water play, story and circle time and our attention to detail

All our baby room staff plan experiences based on the Government's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This framework values and celebrates the care and education for children and babies aged 0 to 5 years by recognising them as skilful and competent. The principles of EYFS affirm our child centred approach and highlight the importance of relationships in a baby's development.

Each baby’s dedicated Key Person will ensure that all of their requirements are met – you can always be assured that you and your baby will meet a familiar face at the start of every day. In addition to each baby’s individual daily communication sheet, our staff look forward to and value the time they have to chat with each family. Twice a year families will receive a more formal written progress report highlighting their baby’s strengths and successes in relation to the aspects of the national framework.

Ofsted said 'The provision for extending children's language is particularly good. Babies and younger children develop effective communication skills and staff respond positively to babies' non verbal communication.'
