Rainbowfish Room 2.5 to 3.5 years

One of our principal aims is to ensure children receive high quality care and early education. The Rainbowfish team deliver this in a child centred environment in accordance with the principles from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The Rainbowfish team provide a balanced provision of adult supported and play experiences within rich, stimulating indoor and outdoor environments. The outdoor area is accessed from the room. We ensure these environments include complexity and challenge, with the aim of encouraging children’s initiative and development of skills. We support our children’s development and consolidation of these skills and concepts by giving them the time and opportunities to make sense of their world, grow in confidence, and for them to believe in themselves as capable and powerful learners.

We believe our children strive in an environment where they have first hand experiences of the world around them. Sandy, the resident hamster, encourages a love for animals and an understanding of caring for living things. We commit to this by encouraging our children’s encounters and discoveries in their local community through the display of their creative projects. Children have a busy and exciting week which may include visits from specialists in music, yoga and football.

Our progressive approach to the EYFS is supported by current knowledge and is developed with the assistance of our Early Years Curriculum Advisor and Surrey Early Years. Together with the Rainbow Fish team, this ensures the high quality delivery of the EYFS. The EYFS sets out six areas of learning which are:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

Parents are kept up to date with their child’s developmental progress towards the EYFS early learning goals in a variety of ways - daily verbal and written communication, twice yearly written progress reports, Care and Education meetings, individual child profiles and curriculum information evenings.
